Mikkyo zen Open Class
Mikkyo & Zen Meditation open sessions are held at Saratoga, San Jose, Plesanton, South San Francisco, and Marin. Through the practice of Mikkyo Zen, students will seek how best to live in the present moment with less stress and less manifestations of the "Three Poisons (Anger, Craving and Whinging)," which in turn cause all suffering. Lectures and discussions will focus on the basic tenets of Buddhism and will be taught through the guidance of an ordained monk. Students are provided a spiritual journey of understanding where we stand in this universe, and tips how we can become enlightened during this lifetime.
JAPANESE & CULTURAL open class
Japanese Nihongo Class (Beginner level)
An experienced Japanese teacher will introduce students to Japanese culture through Japanese history, story telling, and explanation of Japanese folklore.
Combined Culture Class (Beginner and Intermediate level)
In a class setting, students will participate and experience in traditional Japanese Dance, Origami, Kimono, Rakugo, Uta, Haiku, Tanka, Doyo. These subjects will be taught from a historical perspective. At times, VIP guest lecturers will be invited to lecture.
Tracing/Calligraphy Class (Advance level)
Calligraphy will be used to trace the "Hannya Shingyo"(Heart Sutra). Calligraphy is method for mindful discipline and is practiced not only in Japan but in other other Buddhist countries. Each word and phrase(s) have hidden meaning and stories behind them and will be revealed by the instructor.
Heart Sutra or Buddha Art Calligraphy will also be offered to advanced level students. Calligraphy in the advanced level allows a student to experience a
synchronization of body movement associated with cultural learning.
